MILAN: Inter Milan have won their first Serie A title in 11 years but fallen champions Juventus are eager to reclaim the trophy for nine seasons in a row.
AC Milan and Atalanta have the ability to challenge while Jose Mourinho’s return to Italy with Roma could present something.
Antonio Conte’s Inter have dominated Serie A this season by securing their 19th title with four games remaining, winning their first ‘Scudetto’ in three titles under Mourinho in 2010.
Conte built the ‘Nerazzurri’ since arriving there two years ago, finishing second two years ago in the first season before winning his fifth league crown, three with Juventus between 2012 and 2014 and one with Chelsea in 2017.
An early elimination in European competition allowed Inter to focus on the league campaign and Conte is now aiming for dominance with Inter just as he did at Juve a decade ago.
First of all the 51 -year -old wants assurances from club owners from China about new and existing players including Romelu Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez, Achraf Hakimi, Alessandro Bastoni and Nicolo Barella.
Inter finished the league with 91 points, their second best record and second most goals behind Atalanta with 89 goals scored by 17 players in addition to the most invulnerable defense.
“We want to celebrate the moment but on Monday, we will continue to adjust to the new season,” Conte said.
Stefano Pioli’s Milan side survived a winding road in the second half of the season after taking the lead at the start of the campaign to place them as next season’s challengers.
Despite a poor performance at home, Milan set a Serie A record with 16 away wins for second place in the league-12 points behind Inter-and return to the Champions League for the first time in seven years.
