PORTO ALEGRE: Brazilian star Neymar blasted a retractable penalty as Brazil maintained their perfect start to South American World Cup qualifiers with a 2-0 win over Ecuador just moments ago.
Richarlison gave Brazil the lead in the 64th minute and Neymar confirmed the win in extra time after seeing the VAR footage.
Referee Alexis Herrera actually awarded a free kick after a foul on Gabriel Jesus by Angelo Preciado in the Ecuador area five minutes before the end.
But after watching VAR footage for four minutes, he reversed the decision and awarded a penalty.
Neymar took it but Ecuador goalkeeper Alexander Dominguez saved the weak shot.
Ecuador, however, had to accept Herrera’s decision when it stated Dominguez was at fault.
Neymar took the kick back and this time confused Dominguez.
Brazil now leads the qualifying group with four points over unbeaten Argentina while Ecuador is third, two more points behind.
