MADRID: Spanish defender Diego Llorente today became the second player from the country’s Euro 2020 squad to test positive for COVID-19 after captain Sergio Busquets, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced.
“RFEF announced that center -back Diego Llorente tested positive in the latest PCR test made this morning at a national base near Las Rozas,” the federation said in a statement.
The previously stalled European Championships will begin this Saturday.
Spain will open their campaign in Group E against Sweden in Seville on Monday despite their entire squad being sidelined since Busquets’ positive test on Sunday.
Sweden was also hit by the virus when it announced yesterday positive tests for Dejan Kulusevski and Mattias Svanberg.
