Liverpool Fell In Leicester

LONDON: Jurgen Klopp admitted Liverpool could only blame themselves after a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of Leicester in a clash that saw Mohamed Salah fail to complete a penalty and Ademola Lookman’s winning goal interrupted the Reds’ challenge to the title earlier this morning.

Klopp’s side saw their 10 -match unbeaten run come to an end with Lookman’s second -half goal.

Liverpool are now six points behind leaders Manchester with the defending champions set to face Brentford early tomorrow morning.

Losing for the first time since a 3-2 defeat at the hands of West Ham in November, Liverpool will have to pay a heavy price for wasting many opportunities.

Kasper Schmeichel saved Salah’s penalty in the first half as Liverpool failed to score in the league for the first time since March.

“We weren’t good enough. We still had a lot of chances. What we did with the ball wasn’t right. We played a bad game,” Klopp said.

“We should be able to hold on better. Usually we can do it, why we didn’t do it today is hard to explain. There are a lot of performances below normal levels.”

Liverpool’s performance decline due to COVID-19 and injury was evident against Leicester who were thrashed 6-3 by City last Sunday.

It also puts extra pressure on them to collect maximum points against title challengers, Chelsea on Sunday.

“It’s a big gap. At this point it’s not my problem. If we play normal football, Liverpool football, we have a chance to win more games,” Klopp said.

“The first thing is to stop doing things like this. We lost the rhythm and weren’t so calm to get it back. That’s our fault.”
