LONDON: Arsenal reportedly paid £ 7 million to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to end his £ 350,000-a-week contract and facilitate the player’s transfer to Barcelona.
Barca finally confirmed the transfer yesterday with Aubameyang signing a three -year contract with the Spanish giants.
The 32 -year -old Arsenal striker is believed to be receiving a lower salary and will be introduced by the La Liga club today.
Like Ozil’s previous transfer, Arsenal have once again terminated the contract of their most expensive player and this time it is reported at a value of 7 million pounds.
When Germany’s World Cup winner Ozil joined Fenerbahce last January, his contract with the Gunners – which is also worth as much as Aubameyang’s – ended with Arsenal paying 90 per cent of his salary until the summer.
Arsenal have also ended the contracts of other top -paid players such as Willian, Sead Kolasinac and Shkodran Mustafi over the past few years.
Willian ended his contract without asking for compensation to join Brazilian club Corinthians last summer, saving Arsenal a total of £ 20.5 million as his contract still has two years left.
Kolasinac’s contract was terminated last month for him to join Marseille on a free, while Mustafi moved to Schalke in January.
Aubameyang, who captained Arsenal last season after signing a new contract in September 2020, was sidelined by manager Mikel Arteta due to disciplinary issues.
“Having the chance to win a trophy and be the captain of this club is something I will remember for a lifetime.
“I always give 100 per cent for the club and that’s why it’s so hard to say goodbye to this club.
“I am saddened not to have the opportunity to help my teammates for the last few weeks but I wish friends and fans continued success in the years to come,” Aubameyang said on social media.
